I use this cane all year, indoors and out. With the ice tip retracted, it is superior to other canes I've used--very sturdy. With the ice tip extended, it provides real security on ice, snow, soft turf, mud, etc.

It nice that the "point" retracts easily when you go indoors, but springs out instantly when needed on ice or snow.
