Newsflash: Source: The American Journal of Psychiatry, May 2006: Light therapy is as effective as Fluoextine (Prozac) in treating Winter SAD. What light therapy lamp was used in their study?  Day-Lights And were you wondering which lamp was pictured in the Winter Blues article on the November 2007 issue of Consumer Reports magazine? It was the Day-Lights!

Day-Lights are bright light systems designed to help people who suffer from seasonal depression (Seasonal Affective Disorder / SAD) or the winter blues. Day-Lights emit 10,000 lux of light intensity - the dosage recommended by light therapy experts when recommending a light therapy product.

Versatility is a key feature of the Day-Light light therapy lamp. Light-weight and compact, the Day-Light can be used with the adjustable legs, set on a shelf using the built-in stand, or wall-mounted for a pleasant light window effect.

New Product Features: Day-Lights was already the only light therapy product on the market that met all the key performance factors set out by the CET (Center for Environmental Therapeutics) for effective light therapy.  So where could it improve? Day-Light now comes with removable and adjustable legs and silver coded buttons for easier and more flexible use.

Benefits:
  • Helps to ease seasonal mood swings and winter depression
  • Improves sleeping patterns
  • More than a light therapy lamp it makes an exceptional task or reading lamp
  • Provides pleasant ambient lighting
Who can benefit
  • At least 4 million North Americans who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
  • Over 36 million North Americans who seasonally feel light-deprived, lose energy, and experience the winter blues.
  • Shift workers and long distance flyers with disturbed sleep patterns
  • Those who work in dark work places, or in offices without windows
Guidelines for use:
  • For optimal light angle and maximum comfort, use with adjustable legs and position light at a 10-15 degree angle.
  • Use the three bulb setting for 10,000 lux of light intensity.
  • Sit 12 inches from the light source for 20-30 minutes each morning during the fall, winter and into the spring months.
  • Eat breakfast, read, talk on the phone or glance down at the surface in front of the light. It is not necessary to look into the light.

Symptoms should begin to ease within one to two weeks of regular use.
